As I mentioned last time, I am playing the latest game in the Cat Quest series. I will do my best to keep the cat puns to a minimum while I talk about the game. This will be my first impressions of the game so far and I will try and keep any spoilers to a minimum. Now something I always forget whenever I start a new one of these games is that the map is bigger than I think it is. There is a lot to explore and this time there is a lot more water. Thankfully, they at least allow you to swim from the beginning this time. More importantly, they give you a ship to allow you to travel faster on the high seas. Also, your ship serves as another means of attack. This game has a bigger focus on ranged combat since some enemies are best handled from afar and you can’t always rely on magic. I find it useful, but I haven’t quite gotten used to it yet. Also, I am noticing that there seem to be a lot more options for weapons and armor than I remember, but that could be my mind playing tricks on me. Right now I am not very far into the story so it will be a while before I am sure about how many items the game actually has in it.

One thing that was definitely interesting is there are different kinds of dungeon layouts. Some are strictly on a 2D plain. That means that both enemy and boss encounters have a different style to them and there isn’t a lot of space to run away and cheese enemies. I’ve heard that the hard way. So I’ve died a few times. What’s funny is every time you get put down and get a game over it tells you to maybe use your ship to deal with harder enemies. I think that advice was only applicable once as every other time it was in a 2D dungeon. I can’t really bring my ship into those. Thankfully, dying isn’t so bad as you just go back to the last checkpoint. Currently, I am torn between exploring and potentially getting wiped by higher-level enemies or trying to play things safely and continue with the story. I haven’t decided yet, but I am leaning towards exploration. It’s a pirate’s life for me after all.

Anyway, that’s about it for my first impressions. It might be hard to tell but I am having a blast. These games don’t really miss and they are just cute fun games to play in my downtime. Hopefully, I will be able to unravel the secrets of my bloodline again and find the hidden treasure, but that will be another day. Maybe I will even find out about the different timelines and figure out what this is all about?

Your guess is as good as mine as to what this is supposed to mean. I have a feeling about it, but I may need to replay the previous games to be certain. Anyway, have a good night! I’m off to find some pi-rats! That last bit wasn’t a joke. that is what they are called. See you next time!
