So, my friend Miriam introduced me to a cute little game a little while back and I thought I would talk about it a bit on the blog. The game is called Duck Detective: The Secret Salami. As you can guess from the title, it is a game about a duck who works as a detective. As a duck struggling to make ends meet he comes across a case that leads to him tracking down a fearsome foe known by the moniker of the Salami Bandit. Using his wits, the Duck Detective must investigate and crack the case. I know that this sounds pretty silly, but this actually gets more involved than you think it does. Despite the nice critters, this isn’t exactly for little kids. Never judge a book by its cover.
Anyway, the game itself is pretty straightforward. You use your observational skills to make clues that can help lead you to finishing your deductions. As you interact with different people and objects you manage to find certain keywords for your hunt that you need for your deductions. In your notebook, you need to use the words you have found and the clues you have picked up on in the environment to write down your deductions. This helps you proceed with the game. It is a cute little idea, although sometimes one little detail that you miss can derail you a bit. Especially once you get down to some of the last deductions. I would have a lot of the pieces but would fumble with putting them in the right spot. Even with a couple of snags, the game only takes a few hours to beat. It is a fun little game.
I do want to see more games in this kind of style. I do have a soft spot for detective games. Some of my first games were mystery games back on CD-ROMs. So I once again thank my friend Miriam for introducing this game to me. I did enjoy it and I hope these duck adventures aren’t over. Hopefully, he manages to patch up his life a bit for the next case. That’s all for now! Bye!
